The ACLU of Oklahoma seeks a Legal Intern. Interns will have the opportunity to learn about the breadth of the ACLU’s work, to understand the issues facing Oklahomans, and to practice skills like legal research and writing and crafting litigation strategy. This internship can be full- or part-time with a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week. It is a remote optional position based in Oklahoma City. It is open to all law students who will have completed their 1L year. Compensation for this position is $15 an hour for a maximum of 20 hours a week.

Priority consideration will be given to candidates who apply by January 1, 2025, but we will review applications on a rolling basis and may fill the position before then. We hope to hire two interns.

ABOUT THE ACLU OF OKLAHOMA

The ACLU of Oklahoma is a nonprofit, non-partisan, privately funded organization devoted exclusively to the defense and promotion of the individual rights secured by the United States and Oklahoma constitutions.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Conduct legal and factual research and produce memoranda,
  • Draft and submit open records requests and review produced public records,
  • Draft and edit demand letters, motions, and other filings
  • Attend staff and litigation team meetings,
  • Attend court hearings and public meetings, and
  • Other tasks assisting with litigation as necessary.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • An understanding of the Constitution and civil rights issues,
  • A commitment to civil rights and the work of the ACLU,
  • Excellent organization and writing skills, and
  • Proficiency in SharePoint, Microsoft Office, and Westlaw.
