The Policy Intern position is a unique opportunity for aspiring advocates to advance civil liberties and civil rights during the Oklahoma legislative session. Reporting to the Policy Director, the Policy Intern will be instrumental in tracking and researching legislation. This internship is open to all undergraduate university students who reside in Oklahoma.
INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
Location: This internship will be a primarily remote position with the option to visit the state capitol.
Compensation: Interns will be compensated at $15 an hour for a maximum of 20 hours per week.
Internship Duration: January 6, 2025 - May 30, 2025.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with research and create fact sheets for legislation.
- Monitor legislative hearings related to policy agenda.
- Take notes during legislative hearings, either virtually or in-person and report back to Policy Director.
- Participate in coalition meetings as assigned.
- Participate in ACLU-OK Advocacy Day at the Capitol.
- Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned
- Center principles of equity, inclusion, and belonging in all work, embedding the values in program development, policy application, and organizational practices and processes
- Demonstrate a commitment to the mission of the ACLU.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Must live in Oklahoma.
- Must be available for up to 20 hours per week.
- Demonstrated interest in the Oklahoma State Legislature, policy, and advocacy.
- Ability to prioritize work under tight deadlines
- Proficiency using diverse technology platforms, including but not limited to; Teams, Zoom, Microsoft Office, Outlook.
